Regulatory context
Under Rwanda's data protection law, financial and health data are sensitive personal data, and storing them outside the country needs authorisation from NCSA. Hosting in our Kigali and Huye regions keeps that data in Rwanda. For banks, the National Bank of Rwanda also requires disaster recovery sites to sit at least 40 km from the primary site; Kigali and Huye are 130 km apart. Regulated workloads no longer have to route disaster recovery to South Africa or Europe. Both regions peer on RINEX, the Rwanda Internet Exchange, keeping local traffic local and reducing latency across both regions.
